And, also menopause, which makes, your ADHD symptoms ten times worse, apparently. Actually, totally do. I'm here to tell you your videos have been extremely helpful.

And we do need to have an episode about menopause and the effects, because it definitely does affect ADHD symptoms. And not only that, but hormonal changes month to month of symptoms.

Today we're going to talk about ADHD paralysis. Have you ever sat there staring at your screen knowing exactly what you need to do and you still can't move?


You can tell yourself to do it, but your brain just won't start. That's ADHD paralysis. It feels frustrating and confusing and it can make you wonder what's wrong with you. It's not laziness. It's not a character flaw. ADHD paralysis happens when your brain is overloaded. Too many choices, too many steps, too much pressure. When that happens, your brain freezes.


You still care. You still want to take action. You just can't access the part of your brain to make it happen. You don't need more motivation. You need a calmer brain. Many of my clients get stuck checking their email. They avoid it for days because they expect something stressful to be waiting in there for them. Sometimes they're already overwhelmed and don't want anything else added to their plate.


So often times will open email together. I'll sit there with them while they do it, one message at a time. Almost every time they realized there was nothing to worry about. Doing this enough times teaches their brain there's nothing to fear. The freeze starts to fade. So why does it happen? Here's what's going on. One too much information.


When your brain can't decide what to do first, it does nothing. Two. Perfectionism. You want to do it right, so you don't start at all. Three low interest or low dopamine. If something isn't urgent or interesting, your brain doesn't get that spark to begin. Four. Stress and fatigue. When you're tired or stressed, your executive function slows down. Your brain isn't refusing you.


It's protecting you from overload. The answer isn't to push harder. It's to clear the road. I love analogies. Imagine a frozen computer. Think of your brain like a computer with too many tabs open. You can't even see what's there until you close a few. Once you do everything starts responding again. Your brain works much the same way and needs space to move.


What can you do when you're stuck? Start smaller than you think. You don't have to finish. Just start. Open the email. Write one line. Put one dish in the sink. Small actions create movement. You can move your body. Movement resets your brain. Stand up. Walk outside. Stretch or dance to one song. One of my clients does this every time.


She feels stuck. And it works every single time. Clear your space. Close tabs. Tidy your desk. Quiet the noise. Your environment affects your ability to focus. Use supportive self-talk. Say to yourself, I can do one small thing. I'm capable of taking action in this. Small actions count. It's going to be easier than I think. I only have to give this five minutes.


Your words calm your brain. This is one of my favorite tools. Use a timer. 5 to 10 minutes is enough. When it ends, you can stop or keep going. Either way, you started. And that matters. Add a light accountability. Send a text that says, I'm starting this now or join a focus session. Sometimes it's just being seen that helps your brain begin.


You don't have to feel ready. You just have to begin. So how can you prevent getting stuck? Keep your daily lists short. Three main things. Break big projects into smaller steps. Change something up. Music, workspace, tools and rest before you crash. ADHD paralysis isn't a discipline problem. It's a signal that your brain needs a reset when it happens.


Pause, move, and take one small step forward. Every bit of action counts. So I want to give you a challenge. Pick one thing you've been frozen on. Give it five minutes. Tell me what happened.
